Empowering young people for a better tomorrow

The aim is to empower young people with essential skills and opportunities to become self-reliant to enable them to achieve economic independence.

SOS Namibia recognizes the importance of social skills development in helping young people build strong relationships and navigate the complexities of the world of work. This helps young people develop the skills they need to succeed in their personal and professional lives. SOS Namibia also works to ensure that young people have access to post-secondary education and training opportunities that will help them build the skills they need to succeed in the workforce.

Youth Employability

Partnering for Youth Employability

In 2017, together with our partners, we launched YouthCan!, the global partnership for youth employability. The aim of this initiative is to empower young people who lost or are at risk of losing parental care, on their journey to decent work and independent life.

Young people across Namibia face significant challenges when seeking employment and transitioning to independence. For those who grow up without parental care or in families at risk of breaking apart, these challenges are even greater. At SOS Children's Villages Namibia, we are dedicated to empowering young people by equipping them with the skills and resources needed to prepare for the labour market and improve their chances of securing meaningful employment.

Empowering young people

In Namibia, we support young people on their journey to employment and independence by placing a strong emphasis on youth empowerment.

Empowering young people

In Namibia, we are committed to supporting young people as they navigate their path to employment and independence. Many young individuals, particularly those without parental care or from vulnerable families, face immense challenges in securing jobs and building stable futures. Through our dedicated focus on youth empowerment, we provide tailored programs and opportunities that equip them with essential skills, confidence, and resources to thrive in the labour market. Our efforts aim to create a supportive environment where young Namibians can unlock their potential, achieve independence, and contribute positively to their communities.

Career orientation and coaching

We provide guidance to young people on education and career options, and encourage them to develop their individual interests, talents and opportunities.

Strengthening vocation and entrepreneurial skills

We equip disadvantaged young people with the skills and qualifications to increase their employability.

Promoting access to work experience and in-house training

We assist young people to get practical work experience through job shadowing and internships. To do this, we are working in successful partnerships with the private sector, NGOs and government organisations.

A good example is the GoTeach programme with Deutsche Post DHL which improves the employability of disadvantaged young people and early school leavers by connecting them with the world of work. More than 9,000 young people in 26 countries across Latin America, Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe have benefited from the programme.

Innovation through information technology

We promote access to computers and the internet, and help young people improve job readiness through training in digital skills and digital resources for job seekers.
